Back-to-School Sanity Savers

It’s that time of year again. Time for he kiddos to go back to school. Don’t let this time of transition stress you out though. It can be a BLOWER or you can handle it like a BOSS. Here’s a few tips to help you out…

Set up a system to organize school clothes for the week

Nothing gets a day stated off on the wrong foot more than kids yelling and screaming about how they can’t find their socks! Or you having to tell your child to put on every stitch of clothing. “Put your right sock on!” “Put your left sock on!” Ain’t nobody got time for that mess!

Instead, get a simple organizing system with an area for each day of the week. Sunday evenings are a great day for your kids to get their clothes together. Never too young to start!

Get a head start

Get the kids up 15 minutes early. This saves the morning and keeps everyone from rushing around. If you’re not a morning person it can suck to think about waking up even just 15 minutes earlier but you’ll thank me once you see how smoothly your mornings go.

Get (and use) a dry erase board

If you have a lot of commitments you should consider getting a dry erase board. Blowing up your schedule large-scale really brings clarity and plus it’s easy for everyone to read. Know at-a-glance who has soccer practice, cheer leading and karate.

Pre-make your smoothies

Busy moms don’t have time to whip up a fresh batch of smoothies in the morning but with this simple hack they can be packed in the lunch box.

Make the smoothie ahead of time, freeze in a freezer jar, and place in the lunchbox in the morning. The smoothie serves as a nutritious snack (it’s slushy by lunch) and as an ice pack. Win-win!

Shop for school supplies by yourself

One thing I dread is shopping for school supplies. I no longer take my kid with me when I do this. Once I get my hands on the school supply list for the upcoming school year I print it out and keep it in my purse. When i’m in in the store, and in a good mood, I break out the list and peacefully check off the items. Having my daughter with me is all about “No mom this color folder.” and “Can I get these cool glow in the dark pencils instead?” I don’t have time for that ish! Now I go by myself and just bring home the supplies…done and DONE!

Set the schedule a few days before school starts

Get your kids back on track with getting up early a few days before school starts so that first day of school isn’t so unsettling for them. My daughter stays up until 2am during the summer and sleeps all day so I have to get her back on a schedule a few days earlier to get her back in the swing of things. You want your kids to wake up refreshed and excited about the school year, not looking like they’re hungover after a rough night!

With a little planning, back-to-school time can be a breeze. Just remember to plan what you can, and leave the rest. It will work itself out.
