6 Elements of the Perfect Bath

6 Elements of the Perfect Bathading

I enjoy a nice bath at least once a week. Bath time is ME TIME and I really try to make it special. Here are my top 6 elements to enjoying the perfect bath.

1. Make it hot!

Who wants to soak in cold (or even cool) bath water? Not me! I run my bath water as hot as I can stand it! The medical benefits are many including improved blood circulation, lowering blood pressure and easing muscle pain. Additionally, if you take a bath before bed, the hot water will relax you and will prepare you for falling asleep. Relaxing the muscles not only soothes us physically, but also mentally, and many of us need that peace of mind at the end of the day.

2. Add bath salts

Get that pretty bottle of bath salts you were gifted three Christmases ago off the shelf, dust it off and use that bad boy! Bath salts are a necessary component of creating the perfect bath. They are not only pretty and smell good but (if they are natural and of good quality) keep your skin smooth, soft, and supple.

The minerals in bath salts are easily absorbed into our pores and are known to cleanse and purify our skin on a molecular level, improving your skin’s radiance, tone, and texture. The minerals also  soothe tired, sore muscles (ehem…Epsom salt people!). And of course with fragrances like lavender, chamomile, cherry blossom and just about any other scent you can think of, you’re bathroom will really start to feel like a spa!

3. Listen to relaxing music

I don’t know about you, but I love turning on my Erykah Badu, Luther Vandross and Jill Scott and just chilling in the bath tub. I also listen to jazz and other relaxing instrumental music sometimes. The music helps take your mind off the stressful day and puts you in a head space of relaxation and tranquility. Set up a Pandora playlist!

4. Make an announcement

If you don’t let your family know you’re taking a bath, and are not to be disturbed, all of these tips i’m giving you are null and void. There is nothing that kills a relaxing mood more than your kids banging on the bathroom door while you’re trying to relax. Or your husband yelling from the bedroom “Hey babe, do you know where I put my favorite shirt?” Let your family know that you are not, under any circumstances, to be disturbed during your sacred bath time. Put a note on the bathroom door if you have to. Make it plain and make it stick! If it’s important to you, it’ll be important to them and they will let you have your “me time” in peace.

5. Grab the body scrub

Another purchase that get’s put on the shelf to collect dust are body scrubs. You smell it, fall in love and think you’re gonna use it every day only for it to sit in the drawer or closet along with the other bath and body products you meant to use. Break out that scrub girl! You’re missing out on some great pampering!

As you massage it over your body, the exfoliating granules help to slough off dead skin, and the rubbing action itself boosts circulation by increasing blood flow to the skin’s surface. Plus, body scrubs are super moisturizing and, if it’s good quality, you won’t even need lotion after your bath because you will feel the effects long after you’ve towel-dried your body.

6. Don’t forget the wine!

Ok this is totally optional but i’m writing this blog post so I say BRING ON THE WINE! I’m not saying get hammered while soaking in the tub. I’m simply saying, enjoy a nice glass of vino to enhance your perfect bath. A glass of RED wine at night has been proven to have many health benefits including a happier heart and can even aid in weight loss. (gotta love that!) Don’t believe me?
