Our April Spotlight Womenpreneur is on Allisha Fitts the owner of DC-based beauty company on wheels, Manicures N Motion. Allisha gave me great tips on nail care as self-care and what it’s like to work your dream business full-time.
Tell me about your business.
Manicures N Motion is a mobile manicure company that provides onsite manicures and pedicures to clients who are physically unable to get to a nail salon. We also service corporations, conferences and conventions in the Washington, D.C. metro area as well as Nashville, TN.
How long have you been in business?
It will be 6 years this June.
Do you find that you have more time for self-care, since you work your business full-time, or less?
Yes, I have more time to devote to self-care because my schedule is flexible.
What tips do you have for getting fab nails at home?
Shape your nails with a nail file, clip them, moisturize the hands and apply a good base and top coat. This can be done for like $8 and the supplies will last you 6 months.
How does your business help women live better lives?
We allow women to acknowledge that a little pampering can make their day brighter, and make them feel good about their well-being.
What is a typical work day like for you?
Answer sales calls, selling the benefits of our services to clients, responding to emails, booking appointments for our manicurists, working with nail polish distributors, and promoting our business on social media. I wake up at 5:30am and bedtime is at 9pm.
What is your favorite way to relax after a hard day’s work?
Sitting still on the couch, with my feet on the ottoman for 10 minutes, taking deep breaths.
What do you do when you are super stressed?
When I start to feel overwhelmed I completely remove myself from the area and travel out of state to visit a friend.
What does self-care mean to you?
Cleansing my spirit with positive thoughts, managing the health of my body and surrounding myself with people who love me.
Why is self-care so difficult to practice?
People forget about themselves; mainly because we have so many others responsibilities. Our “Self-care” is the last thing, on our list of “Things to Do”.
If you could give one piece of advice to a hard-working woman, with a family who is chasing her dreams and could use a little “me time”, what would you say?
There is 24 hours in a day, dedicate 30 minutes to love yourself. Treat yourself to manicure, soak your feet in a foot bath at home, walk 30 minutes outside or on a treadmill or connect with a friend for some good conversation.
What projects are you currently working on?
Currently, i’m working on making Faby our sole product brand for Manicures N Motion. Also, i’m seeking nail technicians with an entrepreneurial spirit to work with us in the Houston and Nashville areas. If you’re interested contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
